Kmart Doubles March 22!

I have to thank Sisterly Savings for the early tip off on this, again.

This is so exciting, but that's an under-statement! Why is that an under-statement? Well don't forget:

1) Glamour is giving $25 gift cards for each $50 in Kmart purchases. Sorry that deal is dead.
2) There is a long list of coupons valued up to $2 that double and result in free or cheap items. I will try to update the list when I can.

Make sure to check if your location is participating here and then check out the specifics below.

-Coupons valued at upto $2 will double up to the price of the item. No overage.
-They do not take internet printed coupons.
-They may not double coupons for $$ off more than one item. Ex. $1/1 will work, $1/2 won't work. I know, that's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard but that is how they do it at my store.
-Coupons of a value over $2 will not double. I know that is obvious but it's worth mentioning when you are in the mindset of doubling everything. Then when you go to Walmart you'll have a hard time not doubling the value of your coupons :-)
-BOGO and free items coupons don't double.
-Cannot use more of 4 of the same coupon.
-Limit of 25 coupons per customer.

Of course, I have been saving my coupon flyers each week and if I see a coupon that usually results in a free or cheap item, whether it be at a drugstore, grocery store or Kmart. I clip it and put it in my Couponizer. The more you shop for these deals the better you are at spotting these coupons.

I'll go thru each pocket of the couponizer and start pulling the high value coupons for items I need or will likely result in a freebie. (double check that they aren't expired...)

I'll put these in the front of the appropriate pockets and when I get to the store I go thru each pocket as I go thru each aisle searching for my deals.

You can go here and here to see lists of items that were great deals during previous Kmart double events. I've noticed I will get a lot of the same items each time so those coupons are easy to spot.

Giant /Lysol Moneymaker/Cheap Easter Candy and Other Freebies

Here is how I did at Giant.
Purchase 3 different Lysol Products-Toilet Cleaner at $1.88, Kitchen Cleaner $2, Pourable $2. Use the 3 different $.50 coupons from 3/15 ss (you can not use more than one of the same coupon for triples). $5.88-$4.50 (3 tripled coupons)-$3 MIR=Profit of $1.62!

Frenchs Brown Mustard

I purchased $20 of Bird's Eye Vegatable at $2 each. Used 3 $1/3 coupons from MNTK. I received back $10 on my next order= $.70 each

Scott 6 Mega Rolls $5.50-$1 from 2/8 ss-$2 MIR (combining with previous purchase of TP)=$2.50 OOPS! This is actually coupon savings by email.

CVS Hersheys Easter Candy

2 bags at $2 each

1 bag of Bliss at $3.50
Equals $15.02-$5 EB WYB $15
Use 2 $1.50/3 from 3/15ss
Comes to $.86 per bag.

Not as "sweet" as the Christmas deal but unlike Christmas, I have to buy Easter candy.

This week I also received checks for Organix and Vitamin Shampoos that were free after mail in rebate. See my running list of all FAR deals here.

I also received a check from my credit card company in the amount of $275 to replace my all-in-one printer that died after less then two years. I was able to do this because I had remembered that most credit card companies offer extended warrenties. Here is an article regarding this.
Scored free hair color at Walmart.
Freebies in the mail:
Orville Redenbacher Sample and coupons received.
Selsun blue Sample and Huggies Wipes sample received (no longer available)
Colgate Travel Bag filled with samples of 3 deoderants, body wash, toothpaste, a toothbrush and coupons. I got this for sending in receipts of $15 in Colgate/Palmolive purchases. The coupons will likely result in free dish and hand soap at Kmart's double coupon event, and free deoderant and moneymaker bodywash at CVS. The best part of this deal was that the $15 in Colgate I originally purchased was all free after sales and coupons.
If this last part runs together I apoligize, I am giving up on trying to get blogger to do what I tell it!

Giant PA Triple Coupons

I always thought we got the shaft when it came to the coupon values we receive in NEPA. We get few coupons for less than $1 which doesn't sound bad but where some regions get coupons like $.50/1 (which can be doubled or tripled) we get $1/2 so if you want to use the coupon you are forced to buy 2 and none of our stores double $1 coupons. The few times Giant does $1 doublers we get a whopping 4 doubled. So this $.50 triple event is kind of a joke IMO but will still result in some savings. Here are NEPA's $.50 or less coupons:

Make money on Lysol Cleaners-Buy 3 different types at $.50 or less after sale and coupons tripled from 3/15ss. Send for $3 on 3 mail in rebate here.

$25 Free at ING Direct-This Bank Rocks!

ING Direct does business online, over the phone and by mail. Without the overhead and high operational costs of other banks, they can pass those savings onto Customers.

Not only do they give excellent bonuses for opening accounts and refering friends but their interests rates are pretty decent too. (compare savings accounts-Bank of America at .19% to ING at 1.65%) The paperless checking is also completely free, you get online banking, free atm card and you can "write" paperless checks.

I have had accounts with ING Direct since 2003 and while I can't view all my transaction back that far I can say in the last 6 months I have earned over $150 in bonuses. The accounts are free, require no minimum balance and there are no fees.

Right now you can open a savings account and get a $25 bonus when you deposit $250. It appears you will have to keep the $25 bonus in for a month but the rest may be available after 10 days.
Once you open an account you will be able to refer your friends and get $10 bonus for each!

How do you get started? You will need an invitation so email me and I will send you the link you need to use to get your $25 bonus. Please let me know if you are interested in savings or checking so I can send the right link.

The Caregivers Marketplace

With the Huggies deals this month I thought it was worth mentioning The Caregivers Marketplace.

The Caregivers Marketplace™ is the nation's first cash back program for anyone who gives, gets or needs care. You can receive cash back on eligible products that are not typically covered by insurance or Medicare – no matter where you buy them. The program is free and your information is always kept confidential.

Here is a short list of eligable items:
Huggies
Blamex
Citricel
Cottonelle Wipes
Depends
Ensure
Glucerna
Naturemaid Vitamins (Earn coupons with their Wellness Rewards Points found on the box or bottle)

Print the list and take it to the store with you, have it handy when planning your deal shopping. I'm thinking this would be useful to have during Kmart double coupon events.

This Week...Blah...

Pictured left are the deals I got this week. Not a great week but deals none-the-less.

From CVS

Free Slimquick, Vitamin D and what was left of the Carnation. I used a $1 off Carnation I got from a blinkie. $1 profit. I am starting to realize the benefits of grabbing the blinkies.

From Giant

Dole Fruit on sale $2 used a Catalina for $1 off=$1
3 cans of Purina One dog food from free q in 2/8rp if you get the same coupons I get.

The Goodlife Recipe catfood-I always thought I could trust the fact that, when in doubt, Walmart is always cheaper. No more. I went to Walmart for cat food and the 3# bags combined with the $3 off coupon from 1/4rp came to $1.77, cheaper than the cheapest cat food per ounce. Out of curiousity I checked Giant the next day and while it was on sale for a whopping $.08 off I did notice that the regular price was $4.47 which makes it $1.39. Just one more way the grocery stores make a sucker out of you. Now that Walmart has everyone believing they are the cheapest, they are going to raise thier prices.

From the mail

Dove body spray sample-I sent for this a long time ago. It was the offer that was all in Spanish. The box had Spanish all over it. Wonder what the mailman thinks?

The Fisherman and Gardening mags from MNTK. Two packs of flower seeds from Gardening Mag. I got fishhooks from the Fisherman mag and deer seasoning for the Hunter mag last week.

You Pet-A Social Networking Site for Your Pet

YouPet.com
This is so funny but I am sure it will be a big hit with pet owners. You Pet is like Facebook for pets and each week you will have the chance to win $100 gift card to Petco.

Free Gift at Pink Nation Victoria's Secret

Thanks goes to Super Sister Jen for this deal.

Sign up for Pink Nation and get a coupon for $10 off a purchase of $35 from Victoria's Secret. You will also get a free gift. Rumor has it that the free gift is a tote bag. Offer ends March 31. You will need to have a printer and don't forget to take your ID with you!

Free Diet Dr. Pepper

You can register for a coupon for a free Diet Dr. Pepper from the coupon banner in the left sidebar or top of blog. Just on the banner where it says "by coupons.com". It should be listed as one of the first offers.

You should be able to use this for regular Dr. Pepper too.

Unit Prices and Bulk Purchases Warning

When I was younger we were taught that buying in bulk or buying the larger package is cheaper. The explanation was that:

1.) When you bought more product, less packaging had to be used, therefore you paid for more of the product and less packaging.

2.) When you buy more product the manufacturer and stores makes more money so they can charge a little less per unit.

It wasn't that long ago that you could pick up the larger size ketchup and almost be certain you were getting the best deal. As long as you used all that product before it went bad, you would be saving money.

In recent years, I have noticed that when you use your calculator to figure out the unit price or compare the unit prices on the shelf, you may find, a lot more often, that the smaller bottle is the better deal. Why is this? What about the stores and manufacturers making more money selling more product in bulk?

Well, you know they know how consumers shop, what type of packaging appeals to us, where to put the candy and the sugary, expensive cereal and how to get you in the store with loss leaders. They have also realized that people have been programmed all these years to buy in bulk and they are definately taking advantage and making more money.

This practice is bad for a lot of people out there that do not understand how unit pricing works and are still under the assumption that buying in bulk is better. One the other hand, I can now buy smaller packages (sometimes) and not have to worry if I will use it all before I have to throw it away. When you think about it, it's actually somewhat of a money saver!

So, while you may have heard this before, check the unit prices and have a calculator (or use the one on your cell phone) to check unit prices not listed right on the shelf by dividing the price of the product by the number of units. Example: 50# of dog food at $9.97. 9.97/50=.20 per pound.

Happy Saving!

If you found this post helpful, let me know, I'd love to get your feedback.

Scam Alert

I just received a phone call from 407-000-4718 "out of area". The recording said that it was my credit card company calling to offer to lower my interest rate. I was informed that this was my last chance to lower it and to press 9. Of course I didn't press 9 and I hung up.

First of all, they didn't say which credit card, secondly what the heck kind of prefix is "000"?

I looked the number up at whocalled.us and others had reported that when you press 9 you are asked for your credit card number. If this was your legitimate credit card company they would not need to ask for your number.

This has SCAM written all over it. Please hang up if you get a phone call like this. If you want to negotiate a lower interest rate on your credit cards, contact your company directly.
